2.8 Claude Cowork — Setup & Your First Automation
🎥 Video lesson — video not yet migrated (source Skool video id:

In this lesson you'll install Claude Cowork, connect your first two data sources, and run your first live AI automation — the daily brief. By the end you'll have Claude reading your inbox and calendar every morning.
Step 1 — Install Claude Cowork
- Go to claude.ai and sign in with your Anthropic account
- Navigate to the Downloads section and select Claude Cowork
- Download the installer for your operating system (Mac or Windows)
- Open the installer and follow the setup prompts
- Launch Claude Cowork from your Applications or Start Menu
- Sign in with the same Anthropic account
How Connectors Work
A connector is a controlled pipe between Claude and an external service. You turn it on, Claude uses it — nothing happens outside that boundary.
- Each connector is pre-built and pre-authenticated
- You approve which connectors Claude can use
- Claude cannot call anything outside the approved list
- Admins can control which connectors team members can access

Step 2 — Connect Gmail
- In Claude Cowork, open Settings → Connectors
- Find Gmail and click Connect
- Sign in with your Google account and grant the requested permissions
- Claude now has read and draft access to your Gmail
Test it: Ask Claude to summarise your last 10 emails.
Step 3 — Connect Google Calendar
- In Settings → Connectors, find Google Calendar and click Connect
- Sign in with the same Google account
- Grant calendar read permissions
- Claude can now see your events for today and the week ahead
Test it: Ask Claude what meetings you have today.
Your Daily Brief
One prompt, every morning. Claude reads your inbox and calendar and delivers a structured briefing so you can start the day with full context.
📷 [Image: Daily brief output showing email summary, today's meetings, and action items]
What it produces:
- Summary of emails from the last 24 hours
- All meetings scheduled for today with context
- Emails flagged for reply and why
- Drafted replies for your top two priority emails
- Anything urgent you may have missed
Run Your Daily Brief
Open Claude Cowork and paste this prompt:
"Give me my daily brief. Summarise my emails from the last 24 hours, list today's meetings, flag anything that needs a reply, and draft replies for the top two priority emails."
Claude will use your Gmail and Google Calendar connectors automatically. You can customise the prompt to add specific priorities or focus areas.
This is your first live AI automation — running on real data, right now.
In Lesson 2.9, Academy members will see how this exact workflow runs under the hood in Claude Code.
