3. Identify your bugs

Why this module exists.

Before we can improve productivity, focus, habits, or decision-making, we first need clarity.

And you don’t get clarity by “thinking harder.” You get it by systematically surfacing what’s slowing you down.

This module is inspired by a self-debugging challenge called Hammertime — a 30-day process for identifying and fixing inefficiencies in your life. The core idea is simple:

Your life improves dramatically when you identify small problems (“bugs”) and fix them one by one.

In this module, we’re only doing the first step: identifying bugs.

We’re not fixing anything yet. That comes later.

What counts as a “bug”?

Anything that creates friction, slows you down, or could be improved.

This includes:

✅ productivity

✅ habits

✅ health

✅ workspace

✅ content creation

✅ agency operations

✅ personal routines

✅ digital clutter

✅ emotional or mental blocks

If it drains energy, time, attention, or emotional bandwidth — it’s a bug.

Examples:

  • A task you keep avoiding
  • A tool that breaks your workflow
  • A habit that sabotages your goals
  • A corner of your home or digital space that feels chaotic
  • A process in your agency that’s slower than it should be
  • A pattern you keep repeating but don’t want to
  • A tiny annoyance you’ve been tolerating for months

Don’t overthink this. If it bothers you even 1% → it goes on the list.

How This Module Works

You’ll walk through six areas of your life and work.

For each one, list every bug you notice.

There is only one rule:

Do not fix anything yet.

Do not judge anything.

Just write.

Put everything into the template provided with this lesson (or any notes app).

By the end, you’ll have your first Bug List — a complete map of what we’ll tackle in the next modules.

The Six Prompts (A → F)

A. Your Day: Morning → Night

Imagine watching a replay of your entire day.

Ask yourself:

  • Where do I lose time or attention?
  • What feels messy or inefficient?
  • What annoyances have I normalized?
  • Where do I waste energy?
  • What consistently breaks my flow?

Examples:

  • Checking email first thing → kills morning focus
  • Unplanned meals → waste 15 minutes deciding every day
  • Keyboard/wrist pain after long coding sessions
  • OBS or camera setup takes too long before every recording
  • GitHub syncing feels clunky
  • Running your day reactively instead of intentionally

B. Habits, Hobbies & Skills

Think about what you do regularly — or want to do regularly.

Ask:

  • Which habits help me? Which hurt me?
  • What habits should I start?
  • What skills matter for my work that I’m not practicing?
  • What patterns drain my energy?

Examples:

  • Want to improve English pronunciation but forget to practice
  • Inconsistent video scripting → content pipeline always stressful
  • Never make time for learning a new AI tool/framework
  • Sleep schedule drift every week

C. Physical & Digital Space

Your environment either accelerates you or drains you.

Ask:

  • What’s cluttered?
  • What’s visually noisy?
  • What’s physically uncomfortable?
  • What feels slow?
  • What’s disorganized?

Physical examples:

  • Messy cable setup → instant mental friction
  • Lighting inconsistent for filming
  • Chair not ergonomic → back pain
  • Camera tripod always in the wrong position

Digital examples:

  • Notion full of outdated notes → decision fatigue
  • Desktop looks like a landfill
  • 200 Chrome tabs open
  • Airtable views not optimized → harder to track leads
  • No proper file structure for content

D. Time & Attention

This is where most agency owners and creators lose the most energy.

Ask:

  • What steals my attention?
  • What would I like to spend more time on?
  • What drains me mentally?
  • Where does my day “leak” the most?

Examples:

  • Slack/Discord notifications break deep work
  • Perfectionism slows every task by 3x
  • Taking calls during prime creative hours
  • Random small tasks derail the entire day

E. Blind Spots & Honest Self-Reflection

Step outside yourself. Imagine you’re advising someone else.

Ask:

  • What is the #1 thing holding me back right now?
  • What feedback do I already know — but ignore?
  • What strengths do others have that I lack?
  • What must be true about me for my problems to keep repeating?

Examples:

  • Avoid delegating even when it would save hours
  • Underestimate how long tasks actually take
  • Stress when videos don’t perform → threatens consistency
  • Take on too many projects → overwhelm becomes the norm
  • Struggle with saying “no”

F. Fears, Avoidance & Emotional Walls

These are the deepest bugs — and usually the most important ones.

Ask:

  • What am I avoiding?
  • What scares me?
  • What truth am I afraid to admit?
  • What pattern keeps repeating because I won’t face it?

Examples:

  • Afraid to niche down because of “losing opportunities”
  • Avoid reaching out to bigger creators
  • Avoiding a big project that actually matters
  • Fear of recording videos because of language insecurity

These are the bugs that create 80% of friction in your life.

Sorting (Quick Rating)

Once your list is created, rate each bug from 1–10:

  • 1–3 = easy fixes (clean desk, organize workspace, delete files)
  • 4–7 = medium systems/habit adjustments
  • 8–10 = emotionally heavy (identity issues, avoidance, long-term habits)

We’ll use these ratings later to design your improvement plan.

More Examples

AI agency bugs:

  • Outdated onboarding doc
  • Manual follow-ups instead of automated
  • Disorganized API keys
  • No template for proposals
  • Relying on DMs instead of a CRM

Content creator bugs:

  • Camera setup takes 15 minutes every time
  • Thumbnail workflow too manual
  • Scripts scattered across 10 folders
  • Editing pipeline too slow
  • Fear of posting imperfect videos

Workspace bugs:

  • Chair height wrong
  • Monitor too low
  • Lighting inconsistent
  • Desk visually cluttered
  • Background not optimized for filming

Digital workspace bugs:

  • Chrome eats RAM with 30 tabs
  • Notion full of noise
  • Dropbox/Drive chaos
  • Too many notifications
  • Obsessively switching tools → no continuity

Your Task for Today

Create your Bug List using the prompts above. Aim for ~100 bugs.

Do not solve anything yet.

Do not optimize.

Do not filter.

Just extract everything causing friction — big or small.
